About this book

The 30th International Geological Congress was held in Beijing, China in August 1997. Leading scientists convened to present their findings and views to the international geological research community. Volume 17 of 26 focuses on Precambrian geology and metamorphic petrology. All articles in the proceedings have been refereed and keynote papers have been included in Volume 1. These proceedings aim to present a view of contemporary geology and should be of interest to researchers in the geological sciences.

Part 1 Precambrian major events and tectonics: the Archean-Proterozoic boundary in the geology history of the Earth, T.F. Negrutsa and V.Z. Negrutza; Precambrian and Caledonian events in Svalbard, northwestern edge of the Eurasian plate - a review in a regional context of the North Atlantic Arctic Ocean, Y. Ohta et al; tectonic correlation of the Precambrian evolution of the North China Craton with the Baltic Shield, Xianling Qian; the identification of a late Pan-African granulite facies event in northeastern China - SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating of the Mashan Group at Liu Mao, Heilongjiang Province, China, S. Wilde et al; the relationship and timing of granitoid evolution with respect to felsic volcanism in the Wutai Complex, North China Craton, S. Wilde et al; formation, break-up and amalgamation of the early Precambrian continental crust in China - dynamics and periodicity, Jin Bai et al; geochemical evolution of the Paleoproterozoic volcanic and plutonic rocks from the Owai area, Guyana, South America - implications for tectonic history and source regions, G. Voicu et al; geology, geochemistry and geochronology of Neoproterozoic volcanics from Huaiyu Mountains of southeastern China - implications for its tectonic setting and origin, Fengqing Zhao et al.
