The Drug Research Institute, Yunnan, was established 40 years ago, and has been engaged in research of natural medicine. To better promote the development and utilization of traditional Chinese medicine resources in Yunnan, this series of field guides intends to treat more than 6 000 kinds of natural medicine resources in full colour photos. The second volume contains a total of 508 kinds of natural medicine in Yunnan. Each species has a vivid color photos and descriptions have been recorded in about 600 words, which involves plant morphology, distribution of habitats, medicinal parts of the plant, harvesting and processing, character, taste, efficacy and modern research. At the end of the book there is a Pinyin Latin-name index, and a catalog sorted by Chinese stroke order.

云南省药物研究所成立40多年来，一直从事天然药物的研究工作。研究所一批批药学工作者，长年不辞艰辛地上山调查药源，实地拍摄，采集标本，为开发云南天然药物资源作着默默无闻、长期不懈的努力，取得了丰硕的成果。整理出版了本图鉴。为更好地宣传、开发利用云南的中药资源，本图鉴拟对云南境内的6000多种天然药物资源作野外全彩拍摄，精心编排，分卷出版。第二卷共收载云南天然药物508种。每个种录有鲜活彩照及约600字的描述，其中涉及植物形态、分布生境、药用部位、采收加工、性味归经、功效及现代研究等内容。本书分类蕨类植物按秦仁昌系统，裸子植物按郑万钧系统，被子植物按哈钦松（Hutchinson）系统。现代研究内容是收庥已发表的有关资料编纂而成。书末附有拉丁学名及汉语拼音索引，目录按中文笔画顺序排列。使检索方便，一目了然。生动地反映云南天然药物资源状况。
