About this book

Language: English

The present book does not describe the morphology of "macrofungi" nor does it give taxonomic keys to find their names; it's only aim is the description of the methods used to study them. According to the predilection of the author, the Hymenomycetes are the starting point and the basis for the methods described here, but most procedures also apply to other "macrofungi". Of course, many are taken from works published by other authors, and many of those methods were tested by the author of Methods for Working with Macrofungi, but others were developed in the laboratory of the present author, especially the methods for microtomy and staining of fungal organs for light microscopy. Some were already described in the "Material and Methods" section of publications in scientific journals, others are new.

The central theme of Methods for Working with Macrofungi is morphology. Procedures for working with DNA and methods used for genetic studies are not included. It is "cook-book-like", but just as a good cook book can inspire a good cook, Methods for Working with Macrofungi could perhaps suggest some ways for the personal exploration of new ideas.
