Recruitment at NHBS
3rd February 2012
NHBS is looking for a Wildlife Equipment Specialist
The Wildlife Equipment Specialist supports NHBS’ range of products for ecology and wildlife watching (www.nhbs.com/equipment). Responsibilities cover four key areas:
- Product range You will help manage the range of equipment offered by NHBS, and the information about that equipment that we display on www.nhbs.com. This will involve sourcing new products, preparing product descriptions for our website and database, creating images and monitoring product performance.
- Customer support pre- and post- sales You will deal with technical queries from customers, liaise with Customer Services and help share product knowledge company-wide. You will oversee equipment quotations and orders through our order management system.
- Inventory management This will involve monitoring stock levels, placing orders with suppliers, and forecasting inventory requirements.
- Contribute to marketing You will contribute content and ideas to our marketing campaigns – email, hard copy and advertising, as well as representing NHBS online, and at fairs and events.
Full-time (37.5 hrs per week); salary: £16-20,000 pa; holiday 20 days pa (plus bank holidays); based in Totnes, Devon.
Here’s who we’re looking for:
You will have an in-depth knowledge of wildlife and the kit that people use to survey, study and enjoy it. As comfortable talking to a teacher about pond-dipping, as to a consultant about bat monitoring, you’ll be able to help our customers with the information and products they need. You may be an ecologist or biologist by training, or a wildlife enthusiast: a passion for ideas and for what NHBS does is more important than specific knowledge or qualifications.
If you were working for us, here are some of things you might have done in the last month:
- Helped a customer decide which bat detector and software they need for a monitoring project.
- Compared technical specifications of trail monitoring cameras to create a comparison chart for customers.
- Classified new customers in our CRM system to make sure they receive the correct information.
- Re-organised the storage of small kit items to allow the dispatch team to pick more easily.
- Planned what to take for a conference we’re attending soon; contacted the organisers to check some details and liaised with NHBS marketing over what fliers and posters to prepare.
- Put together a quote for a large order of wildlife equipment for a school.
- Answered a technical query about a broken moth trap by email.
- Sent out marketing information to prospective customers.
- Added new products to our database and checked pricing on existing products against a supplier’s new price list.
- Chased up an institutional customer with a large outstanding quotation.
- Run a staff training session on new equipment products.
- Found a supplier of buckets – we need to offer a larger range for use as pitfall traps.
