NHBS Recruitment: March 2008

Position 1: Sales, Marketing, Organising, Business Development and Relationship Builder

Salary: £15,000 – £20,000

Are you a highly motivated, professional individual able to drive forward marketing plans, sales activity, internal and external communication? Can you write engaging e-marketing, adverts, flyers and product descriptions? Would you be able to get to grips with our specialist environmental customer base and diverse global range of suppliers?

NHBS Environment Bookstore (www.nhbs.com) is a rapidly growing online bookseller based in Totnes, South Devon. For over 20 years we have specialised in supplying scientists, research libraries and wildlife enthusiasts with books from around the world. Our product range is now expanding to include a wide range of wildlife products and services – everything that an ecologist, scientist or birdwatcher might use. We need a bright, enthusiastic team player to organise and drive forward our marketing activity through a number of on and offline partner channels. You must be happy working on multiple projects, dealing with all manner of business contacts and office tasks. You will coordinate sales & marketing, provide expert product advice, create e-promotions, negotiate terms, develop partner relationships, mail merge, process orders, plan and attend conferences and carry out sales analysis.

This role requires a high level of interaction with our MD, Catalogue Manager and Purchasing Manager to co-ordinate our activity. We are open to the kind of background and experience you will possess – we expect you to be ambitious, dedicated and hungry for success. Likely a graduate, we expect a high degree of self-motivation, professionalism and communication skills. It would be a huge advantage to have some scientific or environmental training or publishing knowledge. Being largely online, it would be desirable to know your HTML from your WLTM. You should be able to write a killer email, work with spreadsheets and other business software.

This role offers a great deal of scope for development and the opportunity to get involved with a fast-moving, entrepreneurial business in a great product sector. You would be working in an open environment where a high degree of individual responsibility is expected. If you are interested in NHBS and what we do, if you can offer the diverse range of skills we’re looking for, email a CV and covering letter (including your current salary) to the Managing Director, Nigel Massen – nmassen@nhbs.co.uk. This position will remain open until filled.

Position 2: Customer Services Advisor

Salary: £12,500 - £14,500

NHBS Environment Bookstore is a customer focused online and offline specialist retailer looking for a confident, skilled and enthusiastic Customer Services Advisor to join our busy team. We supply books to a global wildlife and environment market and we are now expanding our product line to include wildlife and ecology equipment. We are based in Totnes, South Devon.

Taking orders from around the world by web, phone, email and fax our Customer Service team is the first point of contact for our diverse range of customers. You will have a high degree of accuracy and be able, when speaking and writing, to clearly convey information and enthusiasm to customers.

Orders and queries can switch in an instant between a large line-discounted library purchase order to a telephone query asking for a recommendation for a pair of binoculars to take on an upcoming trip – you will need to be comfortable dealing with different types of orders and understanding very varied customer needs and expectations.

Key tasks include:

  • Processing customer orders by phone, email, web and fax.
  • Assessing customer type and adjusting terms/discounts appropriately.
  • Dealing with complicated queries and communicating ‘customer ready’ information.
  • Processing the daily run of orders.
  • Being a key Customer Services contact for our new product range.
  • Updating customer information.
  • Assisting in the preparation of high-value bids, quotations and orders.
  • Handling VIP accounts.
  • Product knowledge and recommendation to customers.
  • Regular inter-departmental liaison.

Send a CV and covering letter (including your current salary) by email or in writing to the Customer Service & Purchasing Manager: Jhal Baker jbaker@nhbs.co.uk | NHBS Ltd, 2-3 Wills Road, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 5XN. This post will remain open until filled.
