Between the 1930s and 1980s nearly 40% of UK ancient woodlands were converted into plantations, mostly of non-native conifers. Other woodlands have been invaded by such species as rhododendron and sycamore. The aim of this guide is to give advice to owners and managers wishing to reestablish functioning native woodland.
