Fauna României

This collection is being published by Editura Academiei Române and includes works on animal systematics, with determination keys, for all animal groups inhabiting Romania.

This vast and complex endeavour has many purposes. First of all, there is a need for an inventory, as complete and correct as possible, of the country's fauna – which is part of the natural wealth of the country. Second, transcending this intrinsic purpose, the volumes in this collection intend to provide specialists in various fields of biology, and those who want to become specialists, a much needed framework.

The volumes of this collection are conceived after a common plan, comprising a general section, which describes the history of the particular group, its morphology, anatomy, reproduction and development, ecology, general distribution, palaeontology, phylogeny, economic significance and research methods used, and a systematic section, including detailed descriptions of orders, families, genera, species etc., with identification keys, and data regarding species' biometry, ecology and distribution within Romania. The volumes also contain a bibliography, systematic and alphabetical indexes, and illustrations. The series is projected to contain 16 volumes in 307 fascicules.
