Has replaced the long-running Memoirs of the Botanical Survey of South Africa and Annals of the Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens, and publishes botanical monographs too long for ordinary journal publication.
The series takes its name from the species Strelitzia reginae, commonly known as the crane flower, or bird-of-paradise flower, which occurs in the eastern parts of southern Africa and is native to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
