The benchmark reference on British vegetation
This is the first systematic and comprehensive account of the vegetation types of Britain. Planned as a five-volume work, it covers all natural, semi-natural and major artificial habitats in Great Britain (excluding Northern Ireland). Over 250 plant communities are covered, with summaries of their vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens. It is intended as a working tool, offering a reliable framework for teaching, research and management, ecology, conservation and land management.
From a review of the first volume:
"[...] a splendid work, sure to provide the basis for classifying woodland plant communities for decades to come."
- MJ Crawley, Nature
From reviews of previous volumes:
"This series is a landmark in the understanding of British vegetation"
- C.W.D. Gibson, Journal of Biogeography
