Scottish Wildcat Action
A new campaign website was launched last week which invites the public to report sightings of the highly elusive Scottish Wildcat. Known to be in decline and under threat, these cats present a unique challenge to researchers trying to establish their population, due to high levels of hybridisation with the domestic cat. 

Three trillion trees
A team from Yale University have estimated that there are just over three trillion trees on Earth.This is eight times the previous best estimate. The data was gathered from surveys of over 400,000 plots around the world, combined with satellite images. 

Counting storks in Macedonia
A census taken in Macedonia found 817 active nests, home to 2027 juvenile storks. The national census was run by over 20 volunteers and with the involvement of people from over 1000 villages. The stork is a culturally important bird in Macedonia and the dedicated volunteers often went to great lengths to find them.
