In this edition: A seasonal icon (perfectly exemplified by our Best of Winter graphic!), robins have featured on Christmas cards since Victorian times, but far removed from the caricature is the real bird behind the holly and tinsel. A reprint of The Life of the Robin by David Lack - an in-depth study of the natural history of these vocal and resilient birds, originally published in 1943 - has just arrived in stock.
Other highlights: Continuing this edition's emphasis on revivals of classic nature writing, we profile Little Toller Books and the Nature Classics Library, which presents a mix of nature writing and British rural history in delightfully designed and illustrated paperback editions; read an interview with Jon from Little Toller on the NHBS blog; also on the blog, read our buyer's guide to nest box cameras for advice on the best fit for your garden; new books on parrots and the birds of Madagascar, plus an unmissable new edition of the Arachnologists' Handbook in Fauna Corner.
Don't forget to check out our Best of Winter highlights for some last minute gift shopping.
We wish you all a happy and healthy festive season, and we'll be back with the next Grapevine in 2016!

The Life of the Robin in stock now
|
|
In 2015, the robin was voted 'Britain's favourite bird', which makes it fitting that David Lack's The Life of the Robin should now be back in print. One of Britain's foremost ornithologists, Lack introduced many new scientific insights about the robin, and his classic study is sure to inspire and educate a new generation of bird lovers.
