Report on international wilderness loss
A new report in the journal Current Biology highlights a decline of one tenth in wilderness areas over the last twenty years, with rapid losses in the Amazon and the Congo Basin. The report stresses the importance of international action on vital conservation measures.

Botanists locate rare fern in Ireland
After a tip-off from a local wildlife enthusiast, a team of botanical researchers headed into a previously unvisited wood in County Cork, Ireland. The Botanical Society of Great Britain (BSBI) reports on their discovery of both the gametophyte and the sporophyte generation of the strictly protected Killarney Fern.

Hope for Ricard's Rock Iguana
Ricard's Rock Iguana Cyclura ricordii is endemic to Hispaniola, with four sub-populations contained in a total range less than 100kmsq. Grupo Jaragua (BirdLife in the Dominican Republic) is one of five partner organisations which have been working to implement the IUCN Species Recovery Plan for the Critically Endangered species.
