Ruminants and especially bovids are considered to be excellent ecological indicators. This study describes and analyses the skeletons of recent and fossil ruminants, and links them to four climatic phases in history. It concludes that specialists are increasingly exposed to extinction while more pleisomorphic forms tolerate perturbations better.
