About this book

Language: Dutch

Few people realise that urban areas are some of the most species-rich bird biotopes of the Netherlands. For some species cities are even the most important habitat. The way in which we mould the landscape determines which birds can thrive there, and which are destined to disappear, and it is no different for cities.

Stadsvogels in hun Domein, published in coooperation with "Vogelbescherming Nederland" (the country's national society for the protection of birds) shows which bird species occur in what numbers in the different Dutch city biotopes in the different parts of the country. This approach is novel and is based on data of the "Meetnet Urbane Soorten", a division of the Dutch not-for-profit organisation "Sovon Vogelonderzoek Nederland", which monitors urban bird populations. Next to providing information, the book is primarily intended as a guide to protecting urban birds. Does my neighbourhood score below or above the national average? Why are some species missing here? And what can we do about it?

Summary in Dutch:

Waarom ontbreken sommige vogels? En wat moeten we daaraan doen?
