About this book

Language: English

The first edition of the Flora of the Indian Desert was so well received by taxonomists that it sold out within a very short period of its publication in 1978. For the second edition, which was published in 1990 and has since been reprinted a number of times, the opportunity has been taken to revise it thoroughly in light of comments and feedback from taxonomists.

Many species were discovered after publication of the first edition which have been included in the present edition. The establishment at Jodhpur of the Arid Zone Circle of the Botanical Survey of India has also resulted in additional taxa not included in the first edition. The classification and nomenclature of plants has been brought up to date wherever desirable, and the descriptions and taxonomic keys have been improved upon to make identification simpler. All the line drawings from the first edition have been redrawn and some new ones have been added, for a total of 136 and colour photos of 114 plants have been added. The original format of the first edition remains unchanged.
