About this book

National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution
The Richmond Index to the Genera and Species of Birds is a 72,000 card index to the scientific names of birds, the culmination of the life's work of Charles W Richmond. It occupies more than 75 file drawers in the Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, and has been an indispensable reference for those able to consult it. Previously unavailable outside of the Smithsonian Institution, this index is now available for the first time on microfiche. It is the most complete and up-to-date index to both the genera and species of birds. Though most valuable for the literature of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the index will be of value for all natural history and ornithology collections.
