Originally called Lindisfarne, Holy Island in the North-East of England is a National Nature Reserve and a wetland of international significance - six internationally important species of wildfowl and wading birds overwinter here.
This is a second revised edition of this publication to include additional species and changes on the island and reserve which have taken place since 2003. This publication is in four sections. The first part presents what is known historically about island birdlife, local personalities and the creation of the reserve. The second part gives details of geography, habitats, the best bird watching areas and climate. The third comprises seasonal accounts with emphasis on spring and autumn migration and rare species. The fourth section contains details of the 318 species so far found in the area.
