A complete field guide to all 415 of Australia's butterfly species. The introductory section contains details of life cycle, behaviour and habitats for the five major family groups: Hesperiidae, Papliodae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae and Lycaenidae, together with identification keys.
A concise account of each species covers the major part of the book. This includes common name, scientific name, and other names (if any) followed by details of behaviour, habitat, status, and larval food plants. A distribution map and a photograph of both the upperside and underside of both male and female specimens accompany each species account.
Michael Braby has spent the last 23 years collecting and studying Australian butterflies and is the author of Butterflies of Australia.
