The aim of this work is to portray a vivid picture of the physical environment of the British Isles, and man's impact on it. The maps cover geology, geomorphology, hydrology, climatology, soils, biogeography and seas, and the human impact on each of these aspects. The accompanying text explains the nature and causes of the observed patterns.
