New and expanded edition of Duellman's classic work, first published in 1970 and long out-of-print. Since 1970, the number of species has risen by 50 to 165, most of them new species from southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, and all them from the highland regions. This greatly enlarged edition (a 55% enlargement of the original, plus 20 new plates) includes not only the original text but also a supplement in which each species account is revised and new or resurrected species are treated in detail. Species accounts are arranged as in the original edition: synonymy, diagnosis, description, tadpoles, mating call, natural history, remarks, etymology, and distribution.
Praise for the original edition:`In tropical American herpetology, it is likely to remain an unassailable model. It marks an apogee of achievement; it is the Hope Diamond of technical herpetological literature.' Herpetological Review
