The ostrich is increasingly becoming a key species in the study of cooperative breeding systems. In this monograph, the author presents new data on the species' breeding system, in which several females lay in one female's nest, with only one male and female doing the rearing. The author explains how this unusual system works and how the apparent altruism is maintained by natural selection. The data originates from three seasons of study in Tsavo West National Park in Kenya. ![]() There are currently no organisations listed for this subject If you are involved in a scientific, conservation or environmental organisation and would like to be listed, please see our NHBS-Xchange information page. |
