After a succinct presentation of lake ecology, the ecological demands of some 27 species are set out, with their reproduction strategies, data on growth and population structure. This is followed by a description of how population composition evolves, depending on the degree of eutrophication of the environment. The various aspects of managing and conserving these populations, some of which are under threat, are also mentioned. This is a reference work for ichthyologists, biologists and ecologists, but will also be of interest to those involved in managing aquatic systems.
