About this book

This beautifully-produced, large-format, full-colour book focuses on the wildlife paintings and sketches of British watercolour artist Colin Woolf. The first section is biographical, describing Woolf's development as an artist, with many examples of his early works. Tracing his story from childhood through university and his training in medical science, it discusses the factors that contributed to his becoming a professional wildlife artist. The second section showcases a wide selection of Woolf's wildlife paintings, divided into chapters relating to specific habitats of the British Isles such as Mountains & Moorland, Sea & Shore, Woods & Fields, with a special chapter devoted to Woodcock and the technique of painting with a woodcock pin-feather. The third section of the book reveals some of the artist's own techniques and practices when painting in watercolour, with illustrations and examples.
