This book is a celebration of their life through his personal journeys into their world, set on the misty slopes of their last stronghold, the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes. Follow his adventures as he visits the highest living group of mountain gorillas, experiences the daily challenges facing a young gorilla (inlcuding the Bad Hair Day sequences) and encounters a group of gorillas that have had far too much bamboo juice for their own good. Themed chapters explore the lives of his favourite silverbacks and the emotions behind his first gorilla trek. It's a fun and irreverent look at this affable ape, beautifully illustrated with over 120 of Andy's finest images, grouped together in stories that make you feel like you are there.
In many ways the conservation success of mountain gorillas to date is a model for the future conservation of many species. Just like tigers, their continued survival depends on them being worth more alive than dead. It is Andy's view that the future of the mountain gorilla depends very much on sustainable tourism.
