About this book

Language: English

Liverworts and Hornworts of India: An Annotated Checklist provides a comprehensive inventory of 930 species and infraspecific taxa of liverworts and hornworts of India belonging to 140 genera and 59 families, with full nomenclatural citations of currently accepted names and their basionym and synonym(s), if any, state wise distribution in India (mostly at minor locality level). Asia and the world with specific literature reference(s) and critical notes on taxonomy and geography of a taxon wherever necessary. The book also contains lists of 200 taxa endemic to India and 563 taxa so far recorded from various in situ conservation sites of the country with state/protected area wise distribution respectively, and comments on 110 taxa which have been either excluded from the Indian bryoflora or considered as doubtful. Species diversity in different states and bryogeographical regions of the country as well as within various orders, families and genera have been critically analysed, and coloured field photographs of 94 genera have been provided. The checklist is unique in providing complete list of synonymy and information on geography of taxa at local, sub-regional, national, regional and global level, and clearly stands out in this aspect from other similar treatises.
