Over the last few decades, the use of birds of prey in free flying and "hands on" demonstrations, often known as "Bird Shows", has increased enormously. These demonstrations can have a great deal of relevance, and it is important for any collection using birds of prey and owls for such work that the standards of husbandry and animal welfare are of the highest. Whatever the type of collection, specialist or general, it is important that the demonstrations have educational value, are safely run, and have foremost, the welfare of the birds in mind. This document gives guidelines on how to manage these birds in captivity.
