About this book

This volume treats the geology of Egypt and Libya as one entity. The book is divided into six parts: the first part deals mainly with the tectonic framework of Egypt and Libya and discusses the main tectonic elements in the two countries. The second part discusses the geology of the Pan-African Shield, which evolved during the Precambrian and Early Cambrian times. The third part examines the Phanerozoic stratigraphy of Egypt, and reviews the stratigraphic nomenclature. The fourth part reviews the stratigraphy of Libya, in much the same way as the third part did with Egypt. The fifth part is a synthesis of the geological evolution of Egypt and Libya. An attempt is made to fit this history into global tectonics and sea-level fluctuations. The sixth part is a bibliographic list of more than 2000 references used in the compilation of the book.
