About this book

Welding provides a practical approach toward explaining the complex processes, procedures and techniques used in the manufacture and repair of metal products. Each section focuses on the key elements necessary to understand the welding or cutting process and to troubleshoot common problems. Also, the process for welder certification is explained in terms that a "non-welder" can understand.

One of the main purposes of Welding is to consolidate, in one convenient publication, all the current basic information on welding. Information written simply so it will be easily understood. Welding is filled with illustrations to clearly demonstrate what must be done... photographs, drawings, pictorial diagrams, tables, graphs, and charts. Chapters 2 through 6 focus on the most widely used processes and contain step-by-step instructions for setting up, operating the equipment and making welds or cuts. Common "process specific" defects on welds and cuts are given along with corrective and preventive actions.

Information is also provided which helps obtain a basic understanding of metals used in products that touch our lives everyday. There are examples of metal numbering systems and descriptions for identification of many common metals.

Welding can be used by anyone from a novice to an experienced welder. The explanations and instructions are written in simple language that is easily understood. The information has been limited to that which will be of most interest and most practical use to the readers. Each chapter begins with the "basics" and builds step-by-step in a very structured manner, making the information easy to understand.
