About this book

From the preface:

"The 25 species of marine mammals observed off the coast of Brittany constitute a remarkable natural heritage that should be better known and preserved.

It is for this purpose that the Regional Council, aware of the strong interest for Brittany in terms of marine biodiversity, wished in 1994, through the signing with the City of Brest of a "nature contract", to support the work of the Océanopolis marine mammal research laboratory.

This pedagogical work, which concludes this 5-year contract, aims to highlight the scientific work undertaken and to make readers aware of the fragile nature of all species as well as the special responsibility that Brittany has in their knowledge and conservation.

This technical document allows us to have a precise assessment of the state of the populations in Brittany and presents the different coastal sites frequented by the bottlenose dolphin and the gray seal. Identification sheets of the ten main marine mammal species of the region are collected at the end of the book."
