Covers 62 species of amphibians (1 caecilian, 2 salamanders and 59 frogs and toads) present in the central region of Panama, mainly from the Barro Colorado Nature Monument, but also including Soberania National Park, Camino de Cruces National Park, Metropolitan National Park, Panama City and surrounding areas. Colour photos are included for all species and the text contains detailed descriptions for each species and information, based on the literature and the experience of the authors, on the distribution, ecology and reproductive behaviour of the different species. It has descriptions of the calls and sound diagrams (sonagrams) of these for 52 species of frogs and toads. In addition, key references are included that will be helpful to readers interested in obtaining more information on each species.
