This volumes contains diagnoses and identification keys for six families of rotifera and the genus Filinia.
The family Asplanchnidae includes at least 14 species. The diagnosis of Asplanchnidae is primarily based on the structure of the trophi. The family Gastropodidae consists of Small, often colored planktonic organisms. Lindiidae is a small family of monogonont Rotifera, characterised by its unique cardate trophi. The treatment of the family Microcodidae is limited to the type species Microcodon clavus.
The monogonont rotifer family Synchaetidae comprises four genera: Synchaeta, Polyarthra, Ploesoma and Pseudoploesoma. For the family Trochospaeridae, the treatment contains the genera Trochosphaera and Horaella. Finally, the genus Filinia is one of the most frequently encountered taxa of planktonic rotifers in lakes and ponds.
