Biography

Dr. Ved Pal Singh is a Reader at the Department of Botany, University of Delhi. He has 20 years of teaching and research experience in the field of applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, and has about 60 publications to his credit. He has edited International Review Series "Frontiers in Applied Microbiology" and "Concepts in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology" as well as Volume 32 (1995) of the "Progress in Industrial Microbiology" published by Elsevier Science B.V., The Netherlands. Dr. Singh received Young Scientists Awards from INSA (1985) and UNESCO (1987), and was awarded INSA-COSTED Travel Fellowship to visit Hungary (1985). He was a British Council Visitory to UK and Germany (1987). He represented India in the V, VI, and VII International Symposia on Actinomycetes Biology held at Mexico (1982), Hungary (1985), and Japan (1988). He chaired sessions and delivered lectures at a number of symposia/seminars/workshops in India and abroad. He worked as a Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow at Royal College, Glasgow (1990-1991). He has been honoured by the International Society of Conservators and Explorers of Natural Resources, conferring on him the Founder Fellowship with the title FNRS. Dr. Singh is also a member of various national and international scientific societies. Presently, he is serving as Member, Academic Council, University of Delhi for the second term. Dr. Raymond D. Stapleton, Jr. received his Ph.D. from The Center for Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (USA). He subsequently was the recipient of an Alexander Hollaender Fellowship for post-doctoral studies in the Environmental Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He has spent the last 8 years actively engaged in research in the areas of Microbial Ecology, Biogeochemistry, and Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, with 14 publications and one patent to his credit. Currently, Dr. Stapleton is employed as a scientist in the pharmaceutical industry with Merck & Company, Inc. at Elkton, Virginia, USA.
