About this book

In the first part of this monograph Lekevicius describes how nutrient cycles and ecosystem structure changed during the evolution of life. In reconstructing past ecosystems he is guided by the idea that life can exist simply as a nutrient cycle and therefore the very first ecosystems should have appeared on Earth together with the very first organisms. In the second part, evolutionary mechanisms are described in more detail. The author deduces from his own methodology that there existed two main evolutionary lineages: phylogenesis or Darwinian evolution and ecosystem evolution.
