Treated in this, the eighth part, are 31 families, 147 genera, 611 species, and 301 varieties. Included in this volume are the large families: Papaveraceae, Ranunculaceae, Polygonaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Nyctaginaceae, Montiaceae, Cactaceae; and smaller families: Nymphaeaceae, Saururaceae, Magnoliaceae, Ceratophyllaceae, Fumariaceae, Berberidaceae, Platanaceae, Altingiaceae, Hamamelidaceae, Cercidiphyllaceae, Ulmaceae, Cannabaceae, Moraceae, Urticaceae, Fagaceae, Juglandaceae, Betulaceae, Plumbaginacaeae, Aizoaceae, Sarcobataceae, Molluginaceae, and Portulacaceae.
All species are illustrated with line drawings. The largest genera are Eriogonum (121 species), Atriplex (32 species), Ranunculus (30 species), Silene (21 species), Chenopodium (18 species), Rumex (15 species), Polygonum (15 species), Amaranthus (15 species), and Aquilegia (13 species).
