About this book

Many books have been written about Cook and Flinders but few know much about Australia's third great hydrographer, Phillip Parker King (1791 - 1856). King was the son of Philip Gidley King, the third governor of New South Wales, and the godson of Arthur Phillip, Australia's founding father. Boy hero of the Napoleonic Wars, naval officer, explorer, hydrographer, administrator, astronomer, geologist, artist, writer and pastoralist, King was also the first native-born Australian to achieve flag rank in the Navy. On his death he was accorded the most impressive funeral ever held in the country.
