About this book

Language: Spanish

This book is the most complete scientific and graphic reference work on the mammals of Argentina and neighbouring countries and fills a gap in the Spanish literature for South America. This work is suitable for both the specialist and the casual reader since its texts are simple and direct but undergirded with the technical rigour required by those who are used to delving into scientific reference works.

With comprehensive and generously illustrated descriptions of 108 species (marsupials, edentates, primates, bats, carnivores, cetaceans, perissodactyls, artiodactyls, lagomorphs, and rodents). An additional 60 species are illustrated in photographs and commented upon in extensive epigraphs.

The book contains several general-interest essays on mammals:
- Argentina and the mammals of the Southern Cone,
- Argentine ecoregions and their mammalian fauna,
- The study of mammals in the field,
- The origin of South American mammals,
- Exotic feral mammals,
- Important sites for mammals.

The book furthermore contains an annotated list of orders and families of the wild mammals of the Southern Cone (Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and southern states of Brazil), with mention of the genera and species of Argentina.

Features:
- 700 colour photographs by Francisco Erize, Aníbal Parera and other outstanding photographers from Argentina and the world.
- 13 colour illustrations by Aldo Chiappe and Larry Foster of mammals for which no photographs were available.
- 108 plates with b/w illustrations by Aldo Chiappe.
- More than 1,400 references from the scientific literature on mammals.
