About this book

The title 'Founder of British Ornithology' has been widely bestowed on George Montagu (1753-1815) who lived at Kingsbridge in Devon. His collaboration with Robert Anstice (1757-1845) began in 1804 when Anstice sent him a Snow Bunting and their correspondence continued sporadically until 1815. Their observations help us to appreciate how hard won much of our present knowledge of British birds was.
