An Atlas of Warwickshire Beetles

This atlas covers the Watsonian vice-county of Warwickshire (vc 38), not the modern county. The only previous account of the Coleoptera of Warwickshire was provided by H.W. Ellis in The Victoria History of the County of Warwick (1904). The atlas aims to indicate the distribution and abundance of beetles from this publication in 1904 until the end of the year 2000. It is thus essentially a twentieth century atlas of Warwickshire beetles. All species with confirmed records from this period are dealt with in the main body of the atlas, and a number of other species are considered. These are those which were recorded in the 1904 publication, but not since, together with those which are known or believed to have been recorded from the county in error. These latter species have been included primarily because records of some of them have been published in the literature. All species are included in the index, but only those with confirmed 20th century records are in the checklist. It is not within the scope of a county atlas to provide general information on the biology of individual species, and only details of observations made by recorders within the county are given here.
