Limicolaria is the name given to a large group of tropical African land shells within the family Achatinidae, commonly regarded as belonging to a single genus. As with certain other families, the Achatinidae present special problems of classification occasioned by wide variations within the species tending to obscure rather poorly defined inter-specific differentiation, and the results of this are shown in the large number of species described in the past, together with the lack of any very convincing effort at any time to split the group into subgenera. This monograph presents a taxonomic revision of 23 species, plus a number of uncertain placement (incertae sedis).
