This taxonomic monograph deals with the mite family Myocoptidae. It contains the redescription of already established species for Africa, using the type specimens originally described by Radford and Lawrence, and describes another 18 new species belonging to a new subgenus. These were discovered as parasites on live rodents in Central Africa, and on alcohol-preserved specimens in the collections of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium. The majority of these rodents are found in Congo and Rwanda, but several specimens were recovered from Ivory Coast, Togo and Liberia.
