In Africa south of the Sahara (excluding Madagascar) this family is represented by 62 species in 5 genera. The genus Listrophoroides is the largest, containing 53 species, with the remaining 4 genera containing 9 species between them. Three of these (Micropotamogalichus, Bathyergolichus and Lemuroptes) are endemic.
