About this book

Language: French

This fauna includes identification keys, descriptions, color plates, line drawings, geographical distribution maps and a list of flowers for all species of bees or Apoidea now known from Madagascar and the neighboring islands in the Indian Ocean. A total of 244 species are listed. 62 species are new. The following 3 subgenera of Ceratinini are new: Malgatina Terzo & Pauly, Copoceratina Terzo & Pauly, and Hirashima Terzo & Pauly.

Examination of the distribution of endemic species highlights the importance of conserving natural formations (eastern rainforests and dry forests of the west, and non-anthropized maquis of the south) for the protection of biodiversity in terms of Apoidea. Unlike temperate regions, anthropogenic environments of Madagascar, particularly grassland, are extremely poor in species of Apoidea.
