About this book

This richly illustrated book stems from Lamb's `Living Plant Museum' in her garden in Cornwall. Drawing on documentation from Linnean, Kew, British, Royal Horticultural, and Natural History Libraries, she tells us which collectors first discovered these species and what challenges they overcome to bring them home to our shores. These epic botanical wanderings are supplemented with lamb's own adventures, following in the footsteps of botanical greats such as Joseph Banks, Robert Fortune, and Lewis & Clark.

Biography

Christian Lamb is a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, an amateur gardener and garden historian. She has had several articles published in the Royal Horticultural Magazine - The Garden. Her early travels following her father and then her husband - both in the Navy - have given her a love of travel. Her subsequent passion for plants enabled her to find good reasons for following her plant heroes around the world and then create a truly unique and private garden in Cornwall. This is her first book.
