Dieses Heft aus der Reihe Süßwasserfauna von Mitteleuropa beginnt mit einer allgemeinen Beschreibung der Morphologie, Biologie und des Vorkommens von Nematoden (Rundwürmer, Göße meist ca. 0,5 - 3,0 mm), die teils im kapillaren Wasserfilm von Bodenteilchen, teils im Bodenschlamm von Graben, Seen, Flüssen und Bächen leben. Methoden zum Sammeln, Töten, Fixieren und Präparieren werden beschrieben. Der Spezielle Teil behandelt alle in Mitteleuropa vorkommenden limnischen Arten der Klasse Secernentea (aus den Ordnungen Tylenchida und Aphelenchida) in Form von Bestimmungsschlüsseln und Artdiagnosen. Ergänzend dazu ist bereits erschienen das Heft 4/2-2, das die limnischen Arten der zweiten Nematoden-Klasse Adenophorea behandelt.
