Language: Chinese with English summary and chapter headings, and scientific nomenclature
The present work is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the economic importance, biological and ecological characters, and specimen collection of syrphids. In the second part, a review is given of the taxonomical history of syrphids both in China and abroad, as well as a description of the morphological characters and glossaries commonly used in describing the species. The third part contains the species descriptions, including 3 subfamilies, 17 tribes, 63 genera and 244 species of Syrphidae from Mt. Qinling-Bashan, among which 115 species belong to the subfamily of Syrphinae, 121 species of Milesiinae, and 8 species of Microdontinae. In this book 86 species are describes that are new to science, while 11 species are recorded for the first time from China. All the holotypes of the new species were deposited in the Museum of Hebei University. The paratypes have been deposited in the Bio-resources key Laboratory of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi University of Technology. Detailed references of taxa at all levels is given, as well as collection record and distributions of species. Keys to taxa of all levels are presented. In the last part the faunal characters of syrphids
of Mt. Qinling-Bashan is discussed.
