About this book

Language: German

It is really necessary that for once an ornithologist act as a spokesperson for the rook, which is generally regarded as superfluous rabble. For centuries, there has been an aversion towards them, based on preconceived, false judgments. The rooks, however, are one of the most awkward birds. As numerous as they are in many parts of the country, this by no means justifies pursuing and killing them. Drawing on rich material, their usefulness and potential for damage are weighed up against each other. It is only when crows are overwhelming in numbers that they can be very damaging, but otherwise the benefits far outweigh the effects of many damaging insects, including forest pests.
