About this book

Language: German

The exotic bird group discussed in this volume is highly peculiar in many ways. The singular form of the claws, the remarkable condition of their plumage coloration, their mysterious way of life that has been confined to the tropical African continent, their still pretty unclear phylogenetic kinship position, etc. have attracted the attention of ornithologists, whereas the splendid colors and the cheerful, lively attitude makes these birds desirable for practical bird keepers. And yet it is precisely these birds that are almost completely unknown in other circles of ornithologists, and therefore deserve attention as a matter of urgency, so as to be once moved a little closer to the attention of all amateur naturalists and particularly bird watchers, which is the main task of this volume.
