A new, small-format field guide to 250 of the most commonly found mushrooms in Britain and Northern Europe.
Following a brief introduction to fungi, their structure, classification and how to go about finding and identifying them in the wild, 'Philip's Mini Guide to Mushrooms' continues with an illustrated key to the principal fungi groups to guide readers to the specific species.
Following the introduction and illustrated key are the 250 individual species accounts and accompanying illustration. The descriptions are organized into easy-to-navigate headings that cover both common and scientific names, physical appearance, habitat and how to differentiate between similar-looking species. Each page is also clearly labelled if a particular species is deemed harmful in any way.
Accompanying the succinct but informative text are generously scaled artworks. The artworks are all drawn to scale and feature leader lines to annotation that highlights key identifying characteristics of the species. In addition, an at-a-glance 'Key Identification' checkbox lists three essential physical features to look for when attempting to name a species.
