About this book

A new small-format field guide to 250 of the most commonly found wild flowers in Northern Europe, with particular emphasis on those species found in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

'Philip's Mini Guide to Wild Flowers' is arranged into family groups, so that quick comparisons of similar species can be made. Following a brief introduction to wild flowers, their structure, classification and invaluable advice on finding and identifying flowers in the wild, the book continues with an illustrated key to guide readers to a specific species.

Following the introduction and illustrated key are the 250 individual species accounts and accompanying illustrations. The descriptions are organized into easy to navigate headings that cover both common and scientific names, physical appearance, habitat, flowering times and UK/Ireland distribution information.
Also listed are species that share certain physical charactersitics. Where clear and accurate data is available, the species page also features a distribution map to help reinforce identification.

Accompanying the text are superb and generously scaled artworks. The artworks feature leader lines to annotation that highlights key identifying characteristics of the species. As well as the artwork, each species account also features a colour photograph which will help the reader identify the species in the field. In addition, an at-a-glance 'Key Identification' checkbox lists three essential physical features to look for when attempting to name a species.
