Environmental enrichment is an ever-evolving subject. By the time these guidelines are published, the fertile imagination of zookeepers will have multiplied the various techniques available. Consequently they are intended as a dynamic document and should form the basis of a personal enrichment databank. This should explain their format and presentation.
It is intended that the journal of ABWAK, Ratel, will continue to publish its regular column "Rags to Enrichment". At the end of each year these enrichment articles will be available to be purchased as a separate block for insertion into your enrichment files.
These guidelines have been designed to highlight techniques and strategies.

Environmental enrichment must be an essential aspect of any husbandry regime. Enrichment is not difficult but practical enrichment often seems difficult to achieve. These guidelines demonstrate how enrichment can be incorporated into daily routines without producing time pressures on keepers but more especially to the advancement of animal care. Includes hoofstock, fish, reptiles, primates, carnivores, birds, canids, bears, felids, elephants, and marine mammals.
