The book is an omnibus of succinct information on numerous aspects of gums, resins and dyes of vegetable origin. The introduction provides a brief but very useful account of origin, chemistry and uses of vegetable gums, resins, gum-resins, starches, pectins. Inulins, Hemicelluloses, Latices, waxes, manna, Tannin's and dyes. It also gives brief account of several major and economically significant sources of these products like Guar Gum, Gum Arabic, Karaya Gum, Myrrh, Frankincense, Benzoin, Chicle, Gutta-Percha, Indigo etc. Enumeration I is the annotated glossary of plants, more than a thousand, yielding gums, resins, dyes and related products, arranged alphabetically by botanical names, followed by the family, area of distribution/occurrence, common trade/local names, chemical composition and uses. Enumeration II and III provide family wise plant classification to help in evaluating the natural order of vegetable kingdom for the products mentioned above. Subsequently, given tables (37) provide relevant and important data on the products to those interested in their commercial exploitation. Also 84 drawings and 46 coloured images. The book also provide addresses (about 800) in two appendices of major manufacturers/dealers of the said plant products.
